Based in Uist in the Outer Hebrides, my practice is an exploration of how our senses create a structure for our experience of the ambient environment, and how this structure can be reflected into affective and effective artwork. I am interested in how the background noise of our ambient (mostly urbanised) commons can be challenged through a process of localised re-territorialisation: how artworks (mostly within the rural landscape tradition) can assist in reconfiguring of space for psychological defence and self-care.
Recent work has included include a series of paintings on illness, and I am currently looking at the experience and representation of the Hebridean weather: reading the air.
I work primarily through painting (in ink or oil), photography and, more recently, sound recordings.
